Position Summary
Adjunct History Instructor for Immediate Fall Hire: World History Course

The History Program in the School of Humanities, Education, Justice & Social Sciences is seeking an instructor to teach between one and three sections of a core curriculum course on a world history theme of their choice for the Fall, 2024 semester.

Course Description from catalog: This Knowledge Perspective course will provide students with the opportunity to interpret and analyze the complex interrelationships and inequities in human societies in a global historical context. Emphasizing the interrelatedness and mutuality of influence between East and West, we examine questions of exclusiveness, intolerance, and cooperation.

The choice of focus topic is up to the instructor. Past themes have included: World Wars, History of Science and Medicine, History of Magic and Religion, Introduction to East Asia, Introduction to the Middle East, Empires and Imperialism, History of Human-Animal Interactions, Maritime History, etc.

Available section classes:

HIST104, section A: Monday & Wednesday, 12:30-1:45 pm.
HIST104, section D: Monday & Wednesday, 11:00-12:30 pm.
HIST104, section C: Monday & Friday, 12:30-1:45 pm.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning. Online content delivery through our learning platform on Canvas although other tools can be incorporated.
Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes.
Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour each through conference calling such as Zoom; on on-campus office can be provided.
Keep accurate records of student progress (grades) and complete mid-semester and final grade reports by registrar deadlines

Willingness to incorporate the university's Connected Learning Philosophy into the course.
Doctoral degree in history or a related field preferred; ABD and/or master's degree will be considered.
Prior college teaching experience to diverse students is strongly preferred.
Successful applicants will demonstrate passion for a student-centered teaching environment and innovative, project-based learning utilizing an active, experiential approach.
